Fairy Garden Fun!!

At our May meeting, we put together Fairy Gardens and boy, was it fun!   Everyone's creativity really came out that evening!!

How adorable is this??   I believe this was Diana Brady's.

Patty Jeffries has a creek running thru hers (simulated with a blue-beaded necklace), complete with bridge and if you look closely (click on picture to enlarge), there is a troll living under the bridge!   So Cute!

Ruth Fields puts the finishing touches on her fairy garden.

Just look at how CUTE These Are!!

It was SO Much FUN!

Hocking House Day-Out Trip

Several of us attended the annual Open House at the Hocking House near Logan, Ohio; home of Jean Magdich, who creates very unique, clay sculptures for your garden; lots of vendors were also on hand with all kinds of cute things!

How adorable are these creations using silverware!

Pat had her eyes on these flamingos near the pond!
Beautiful clay sculptures all thru the property, all hand-made by Jean.
So many unique plants too!   (Diana, were those seedheads I saw you putting in your pockets?? ha!)
An old, restored log cabin houses many of Jean's smaller creations.

Lots of beautifully-landscaped areas; such a beautiful & unique property in the hocking hills of Ohio.

Afterwards, we all enjoyed a lunch at a local restaurant in Logan, Ohio and strolled thru more shops!  It was a lot of fun!  We highly recommend checking this area out; www.hockinghouse.com.

June Garden Tour at Vickie's!

Our June meeting had us at Vickie's home for a lovely garden tour!   We thought the rain was going to dampen our spirits but the clouds broke and the sun came out right at meeting time!  It was wonderful!   (click on any picture to enlarge!)

Super-cute area greets you as you enter the backyard.

Vickie's husband Jim built the many obelisks around the yard.

Can you tell what this item was in it's former life?  A shower caddy!

Lovely cement pond complete with koi that never need feeding!

The veggie garden is just getting started, behind Pat, Ruth and Debbie.

Vickie's wonderful herb garden!

The white picket fence gives the whole backyard such a cottage feeling!

Diana and Deb enjoying the tour!

Vickie's infamous "voodoo plant!"  Check out the spotted stem and how the foliage forms a circle!   (Vickie will put a spell on you if you're not careful!)

Lots of brick pathways and sections that gave the whole backyard the impression of different rooms.

Pat has found something that sparks her interest.

And wants to show everyone!  :)

Stacked wood ready for cool nights on the patio.

Lots of pretty blooming perennials!

Vickie has quite a sophisticated rain-barrel system and even her potting area is very organized and neat!

Just Beautiful!  Thanks for the Tour Vickie!

May Plant Sale!

Spring is here and that means time for one of our big fundraisers of the year!    This will be our third year setting up a plant sale at one of our members house in Clarks Lake and in conjunction with Clarks Lake's Community Sales!

LOTS of great plants, herbs and other fun items for sale which made for a VERY successful sale; our biggest one yet!

Beautiful sunshine to get set-up and the weather was fantastic all day!

LOTS of great-looking plants and perennials!

Looks like we might need to expand to TWO tents next year!    As said earlier, we had a GREAT sale and made more than double what we made last year!   Every year just gets bigger and better!

Thanks to everyone who came out and made a purchase!!   And a big thanks to all the members who donated plants and their time for the sale!!

Annual Founders Day Banquet

The Derby Garden Club is 56 years old this year!!   Quite an accomplishment and we are getting stronger every year!

Our hostesses this year were Ruth Wolery and Pat Jeffries and they left no detail out!  We enjoyed a wonderful dinner at the Pinnacle Country Club in Grove City and the table was set with beautiful daffodils from Ruth's garden that we all took home.

Esther Coyle, our Reg. 9 Director, was able to join us and we enjoyed her company.

Debby Exline, a local master gardener, joined us as well and gave a small progam on Appreciating the Dragonfly.   It was very interesting and one of the facts we learned was, if you see a dragonfly near water, it means the water source is clean!   A very good sign!

Three door prizes were won by Ruth, Freda and Debby, who ALL just Happened to be sitting together!    (sounds fishy if you ask me!!  :)

But a good time was had by all and we enjoyed celebrating yet another year of garden club together and look forward to many more!

Seed-Sowing is Sow Much Fun!

Our March Meeting had us sowing seeds for the spring!   What better way to cure spring fever than to get ready for it!

Vickie Lamb gave us ALL sorts of tips for starting seeds indoors.   We had a lot of fun putting together seeds for an herb garden OR a butterfly garden OR both!  :)

Let's keep our fingers crossed that they sprout!

Hearts & Flowers

Our February meeting got everyone "in the Mood!" (ha) with Martha Jo's presentation on Hearts & Flowers.

She put together a beautiful table display of all things hearts & flowers and gave wonderful tips on bringing that Valentine's Day spirit into your home using simple things you probably already have.

A round mirror (bottom right) with roses glued to the bottom with a red-ribbon for a hanger is a simple idea and she demonstrated using lipstick to write a special message to your valentine!   Ooo-laaa-laaa!

Or check out the white paper doilies glued to form a holder for red flowers (bottom left).   Super-cute to hang on a door knob or cabinet.

This simple flower was made using cupcake liners and some foam-board; so cute!

Martha also recommended a wonderful "Cheer Basket" to carry in your car for impromptu get-togethers with friends.   Include in the basket teacups, teabags, a candle, napkins, tablecloth and maybe a devotional book to share with a friend who might be in need of some warm fellowship.

Even the refreshments provided by Pat and Vickie  were all geared with "lovin" on the mind!

Delicious mini cherry cheesecakes!

We will be starting seeds at our next meeting in March; won't you join us??
